Family Rooms
The Ronald McDonald Family Room™program extends the comfort of a Ronald McDonald House® to a hospital setting. Typically located just steps from neonatal or pediatric intensive care units, the Family Room provides a place to escape the stress and tension of the hospital.
The RMH Family Rooms inside Texas Children's Hospital
In addition to the 20-bedroom Ronald McDonald House at TCH, RMH also offers three Family Rooms situated in close proximity to various pediatric treatment centers within the hospital.
- 9th Floor West Tower – Opened in May 2001, this 500 sq.ft. Ronald McDonald Family Room is located on the Hematology/Oncology floor of TCH. The room is also available to bone marrow transplant families with children in treatment on the 8th floor. Families and guests of patients on the floor are encouraged to come in to visit with one another, grab a quick snack, any time throughout the day/evening while staying within eyesight of patients using the playroom across the hall. The room consists of:
- A cozy living area with TV and DVD
- A kitchenette with ice machine, microwaves, refrigerator, blender, toaster and of course a coffee pot
- 14th floor Clinical Care Building – The second RMH Family Room opened in October 2001. It serves and supports families of outpatients being treated at Texas Children's Cancer Center & Hematology Services, where patients and families often spend as much as eight hours for outpatient procedures, appointments and treatment. This Family Room offers a comfortable place for families and patients to relax, eat and visit with others. It also provides:
- A cozy sitting/desk area, TV and DVD
- A kitchenette with snack pantry, ice machine, microwaves, refrigerator, blender, toaster and coffee pot
- 17th Floor West Tower – Opened in August 2007, this is the largest Ronald McDonald Family Room inside TCH. It serves families of children undergoing cardiovascular surgery and procedures and those who are in the Cardiovascular ICU. From its perch on the 17th floor of the hospital, two window walls provide a spectacular view of downtown Houston. Families are encouraged to come in to visit with one another, grab a quick snack and enjoy a cup of coffee. Most importantly, the Family Room offers a peaceful oasis during a time of great stress. The 1,000 sq. ft. Family Room provides:
- A cozy living area with flat screen TV and DVD/VCR
- A dining area and fully stocked kitchenette
